Financial Controller

Distilled, a global digital marketing agency is looking for a smart, motivated, and number loving Financial Controller in London. This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial spirit to roll up their sleeves, root out inefficiencies, and create systems that enable our company to grow.

As the Financial Controller, you will report to the COO and be responsible for managing U.S./UK Office Managers/Finance Assistants. You will oversee the global accounting practices and have immediate insight into our UK and U.S. finances. Managing the accounting for all of our offices, you will have the opportunity to travel New York and Seattle.

To succeed in the role, you will need to be proactive in identifying issues, use creative and collaborative problem-solving skills, be open to the feedback/opinions of your colleagues, and desire a hands-on role.

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Producing consolidated management accounts monthly;
  • Cash management for both the UK and U.S., hedging foreign exchange risk;
  • Reporting divisional p&ls to the COO and VPs;
  • Monthly forecasting of cash flow, p&l, and balance sheet;
  • Monthly calculation of cross-company recharging and annual review of assumptions behind recharge methods;
  • Setting departmental budgets and review spending;
  • Overseeing credit control;
  • Helping administer all the benefit schemes, these include: pension/401k, gym benefit, healthcare, and happiness budget schemes;
  • Running UK payroll and overseeing US payroll;
  • Filing VAT returns and overseeing/reviewing federal and state filings in the US;
  • Statutory reporting including year-end filings for both the UK and the US;
  • Ensuring all statutory documents are filed on time with Companies House;
  • Liaising with tax advisors to ensure the company is compliant and taking advantage of tax benefits where possible;
  • Working with lawyers to ensure our processes and contracts are robust and compliant with employment law;
  • Being responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations;
  • Ensuring compliance with insurance requirements in the UK and the US;
  • Training and mentoring the finance assistants to ensure they know what they need to contribute to the tasks above, as you will be accountable for their work.


  • You must be an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant
  • An advanced knowledge of accounting principles
  • A good working knowledge of UK and US tax rules
  • Be comfortable with bookkeeping and management accounting
  • Experience using Quickbooks or similar accounting software
  • Good Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented
